As our season slowed down over the last month, we were able to relax and savor our chef’s creations. Here’s a look at some of our favorite Instagrammed moments for the month of July.
We paused briefly to reflect on our pastry chef Jenn’s sweet creations. The delicious molten chocolate cookie she whipped up was simply to die for (hence the bite taken out! We couldn’t help ourselves).
Tastings are another way for us to fill the time during our slow season. We had quite a few tastings with potential clients during the month of July. A tasting is the best way for our chefs to demonstrate their skills, and a tasting with Joel Catering almost always leads to a signed contract, as clients can’t resist the food.
Back in the kitchen, Jenn – @jennmakescakes – continued to wow us with this beautifully plated (and delicious) lemon ganache filled pavlova with black berries and blueberries.
Although some weeks were slow, we did have a few large events last month, including two events for Tales of The Cocktail, the NOLA summer summit where bartenders and mixologists from around the world come to show off their skills and learn about the industry.
One of the events was a Mexican street fair themed party held at our own venue, Il Mercato. The event was sponsored by Olmeca Altos brand tequila. Food included: tortilla chips with queso blanco, guacamole, and ceviche; grilled corn with three cheeses, aioli, chili, lime salt, and cilantro salt; and fish and chicken taco with salsa fresca, jicama slaw, lime wedges, and sour cream.
In addition to the Tales of the Cocktail events, we had a house party and an engagement party. We served one of our favorite dishes at the house party, and at the engagement party we served freshly made dessert crepes assembled for guests by Jenn.
As our July came to a close, we celebrated the month with a happy hour! The planners from Sapphire Events, who we often work with for NOLA Weddings, met us for drinks at Cellar Door.
